This colorful line of brown pelicans were resting at Oregon Inlet on a recent morning. The yellow heads are a sign breeding season is coming soon. Their necks will turn a dark reddish-brown before long. They nest in large colonies on islands behind the inlets along the OBX. I find them among the most photogenic of our birds. They manage to look beautiful and goofy by turns, and the long lines in which they often glide along the waves are amazing to watch.
I hope you enjoy it,
